What’s Your Design?

Are you someone who loves to explore different personal assessments to gain a better understanding of yourself? If so, chances are you’ve heard of Myers-Brigg, Enneagram, VIA Survey, or Kolbe Assessment. But have you explored Human Design yet? Unlike these assessments, Human Design data collection utilizes your birth information, similar to Astrology or Numerology readings.

With a comprehensive approach that brings together ancient wisdom and modern technology, Human Design provides a blueprint for making mindful choices that help you reflect on who you are. In this article, we’ll explore the basics of Human Design and how it can help you create more clarity, flow, and ease in your life.

Using your birth data, a blueprint mapping how your mind and body work together is generated. This inner mapping shines the spotlight on each one of your energies like emotions, intuition, identity, ego, expression, and mindfulness.

With a blend of ancient wisdom and modern technology, Human Design borrows flavor from Chinese I-Ching, Western Astrology, the Hindu Chakra System, and the Kabbalah Tree of Life. Wisdom is also poured in from Genetics, Quantum Mechanics, Astronomy, and Biochemistry.

With Human Design offering so many opportunities for exploration and discovery, it’s easy to go down a rabbit hole exploring the depths of what's available. But, as someone new, learning and exploring your "Type" is the first step to start integrating tools from your human design. After that comes an introduction to topics such as your theme, strategy, and inner authority - but it's all integral pieces of understanding yourself on a much deeper level.

Human Design has five energy types, each with its own strategy, theme, and inner authority that enables you to reach your goals in a true-to-you way.

With your Type, you can create from a space that is empowering, fulfilling, dynamic, successful, and exciting. Through the exploration of your Strategy, you will better understand how to attract the most suitable prospects and opportunities in your most natural form. The way you tell your story is often led by your Theme which encourages you to broaden your capabilities in response to what's happening and how it's making you feel. This newfound insight is further enriched by your Inner Authority, a natural energetic connection that comes with making decisions, key to successful outcomes.

Each of these energetic elements focuses on reducing or eliminating resistance in your life while creating more ease and flow. By leveraging these elements from each energy type, you will be able to create the positive change that you desire.

Here's a taste of some of the core insights you'll get from your Human Design blueprint.

Type, Strategy, and Theme:

Generators are at their best when they pursue what excites them; a state of flow brings out an inner radiance that illuminates those around them. Unfortunately, this glow can be dimmed by seeking external validation through money or fame instead of following their passions. To ensure alignment with their activities, Generators must pay attention to two key theme indicators: satisfaction and frustration.

A Genarator's strategy is to respond - The readiness to respond to something is cultivated through engaging in activities that bring them joy and satisfaction. Everything they experience through their senses is asking for a response. From a yearning to step outside for fresh air to a request from someone. When in their element of doing what brings them joy, generators open themselves up to new possibilities.

Manifestors are spirited innovators who thrive in a space where creativity is allowed to flow. Their imaginative energy usually spurs others into action and gives them something tangible to respond to. When their need for creative time and space is disrupted, they can become angry and this can rub off on those around them. Ensuring alignment with their activities, Manifestors should pay attention to feeling peaceful and angry as their theme indicators.

Possessing a rare, initiating energy that allows them to bring their vision into reality a Manifestor's strategy is to inform. It's likely due to the fact that they often provide something for the majority of people to respond to. When these innovators enter into a creative space, it is important for those who may be impacted by this stimulating energy to be informed so they can know how to best support the individual and their process.

Manifesting Generators are a unique blend of generator and manifestor energy types. Highly motivated to act on their vision with passion, just like Generators do when lit up in the process, they also desire creative freedom similar to manifestors. Multi-tasking is second nature for them as it permits them to quickly turn inspiration into reality! However, their need for speed can sometimes result in leaving out essential steps or moving on without finishing what was already started. Paying attention to feelings of satisfaction and frustration will help ensure alignment in their day-to-day activities.

Similar to Generators, Manifesting Generators most often need something to respond to. What can set them apart from Generators is their ability to initiate, but like Manifestors, they need to make space for their creativity zone by informing others who might be impacted.

Projectors are wise and perceptive people with a unique gift for bringing together those who possess certain gifts and talents that are working towards a common goal. Yet, the very same skill of recognizing and guiding the talent of others is also one which makes them vulnerable to burnout as they may become overwhelmed by others' energies. This feeling can even arise when projectors try too hard to make themselves seen rather than waiting patiently to be acknowledged for their own gifts and talents. Feeling successful or bitter is a sign of where they are in alignment with their daily activities.

It’s natural for Projectors to want to use their gifts and talents to offer assistance, advice, or insight. But if the recipient isn't open or ready for what they have to share, this energy can be lost in translation. That is why their strategy is to wait to be invited. When their guidance is welcomed and appreciated by another person, there will be a more positive reception of the shared knowledge. The same goes for when they're focused on something that brings them into a flow state - invitations are naturally woven into their reality.

Reflectors have this special ability to direct us toward what we are unable to see ourselves. They often take on aspects of their environment, reflecting its wellness or lack thereof. This reflection is observable in their erratic thinking patterns and behavior, identity fluctuations, value shifts, and energy levels. Occasionally this camouflaged power can cause them to remain unnoticed by others around them. The feelings of surprise or disappointment become a pivotal part of their story directing them to better align with who they are.

With a need for space, Reflectors must give themselves the gift of time. Spending time with themselves in a healthy environment will help them connect with their own energy, direction, and identity. Giving themselves space from other influences will help them gain clarity on what is actually for them.

In Human Design, your inner authority is about how you make informed decisions, especially when faced with life-altering events. Here’s a snippet of the five types of inner authority. Obtaining an individualized chart and The Energy Guide will equip you with further insight.

Sacral Authority - In-the-moment gut response that lets you know whether something is for you or not.

Splenic - Spontaneous decision-making that feels like a gut decision, but is more about knowing what is right or wrong in the present and coming into deeper realization upon reflection.

Emotional Authority - With so much emotional energy, time is their most powerful communicator as it allows space and time for emotions to show consistency in their response.

Self Authority - Having a sounding board to talk through their decision will help them better understand where their energy aligns with what needs to happen or better yet what they need to do.

Ego Authority - Without hesitation what they say at that moment, is most likely the direction they should go. This is often generated by healthy self-worth knowing they either have the internal energy and resources needed or not.

To conclude, we have merely scratched the surface of Human Design, but with this small piece of information in your arsenal, you can begin to shape your life in a way that is true to who you are.
